Where we pump septic tanks
Portland maintains more than 300 miles of combined sanitary and stormwater sewer lines, so most dense mainland neighborhoods do not need a septic truck. City records still show onsite systems on Peaks and Cliff Islands, and some outlying addresses need to be checked. Septic becomes much more common in the surrounding towns, though Windham, Gorham, and Cumberland also have sewered areas.
Use the eight town pages below for local phone numbers, sewer notes, and access concerns. Then call with the complete address and any old wastewater records. A ZIP code or shoreline view cannot tell us for certain whether a property has a tank.

Every town issues its own septic permits
Maine CDC supplies 10-144 CMR Chapter 241. Licensed site evaluators draw systems, and each town’s Local Plumbing Inspector handles permits and inspections. Portland does not issue Windham’s permit, and Cumberland County is not a regional septic permit office.
Call us for pumping, truck access, excavation, and construction scheduling. Call the town for boundaries, fees, variances, design approval, and inspection timing. This matters most near town lines and sewer service boundaries.

Tell us how the truck reaches the tank
Mention ferry travel, private-road rules, seasonal gates, posted roads, long hose runs, buried lids, soft shoulders, steep grades, low limbs, and snow piles. We need a safe truck position without crossing the disposal field. Unsafe access may need a different date or setup.
